Pat Robertson Fingers God as a Terrorist!

You can't make this stuff up! Here's a TV video capture of Pat Robertson fingering God as an accomplice to a terrorist attack on the USA coming later this year. Pay close attention to the last  part, where Pat openly admits that God knows all about it but won't lift a finger to assist Homeland Security in thwarting it.

Although I'm not a lawyer, I know that if you refuse to divulge information about a possible terrorist attack on the USA, you are as guilty as the people who actually plant the bombs or crash the planes.

Maybe a spell in Gitmo might loosen Pat's tongue?

God Steps into the Political Fray

Apparently none other than God himself has stepped into the political fray to save America. Rumor has it that the Lord is spending his own money to rent hundreds, if not thousands, of billboards across the South in preparation for the 2006 senate and house elections.

Intelligent Design

One day a few months ago I was in my car driving somewhere listening to NPR. During commercial breaks it was airing sound-bites from "man in the street" interviews to plug an upcoming program on intelligent design. One of the sound-bites went like this: "I know evolution ain't true because I didn't evolve from no monkey!"

Scientists have sequenced the genome of the chimpanzee and found that humans are 96 percent similar to the great ape species.

"Darwin wasn't just provocative in saying that we descend from the apes—he didn't go far enough," said Frans de Waal, a primate scientist at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. "We are apes in every way, from our long arms and tailless bodies to our habits and temperament."

Intelligent Design is just more proof for Evolution

Ironically, Intelligent Design in itself is just more proof that the Theory of Evolution is correct.  James K. Galbraith makes the point here:

And as for the raw merits of the debate, consider this easy proof of evolution's explanatory power. Intelligent Design cannot explain Darwinian evolution. Darwin's whole point is that variation and change are random and without higher purpose. We cannot imagine that God designed the disproof of his own existence.

But can evolution explain Intelligent Design? Easily. After all, it was less than a century back—when William Jennings Bryan prosecuted (and Clarence Darrow defended) the Scopes case—that the fundamentalists Bryan represented demanded that only a literal biblical account of creation be taught in public schools. They didn't want evolution taught at all. Bryan won in court, but in the schools Darrow and Darwin ultimately prevailed.

And what is Intelligent Design, now seeking its niche in a culture conditioned by tolerant and pliable minds, which pretends to want a peaceable coexistence with evolution rather than to supplant it? What is it indeed, if not the mutant offspring of creationism, born into the world that evolution made? It's a political adaptation. Q.E.D.
