Infortunately, polticians know that if they acknowledge these problems, they become unelectable as the public just doesn't want to know.

If you look at history, for about the last 5-10 thousand years, the status quo has always been an elite ruling class subjugating the masses.
Egyptian Rulers, Romans, European Monarchies, Asian Tyrants, New World slave culture, etc.
The Lord/Serf has always been the standard for virtually ALL of recorded history. It is only during the tiny segment of time in the last 100 years or so that the industrial revolution made a dent in that hierarchy -- and boy did that piss off the elite.
Things are now just being returned to "normal."
